To be recognized as a vibrant and dynamic business district that sets the national standard for other commercial districts’ growth and innovation.

MISSION STATEMENT

To accomplish its vision of creating a vibrant and dynamic business district the OBID will:

  • Build effective partnerships with businesses, institutions, and property owners to maintain a clean and safe community.
  • Attract, retain, and promote quality businesses and retail segments to support our local economy.
  • Promote Oakland as a renowned destination point with a business, retail and institutional mix offering unique products, services, and events.
  • Coordinate events and programs designed to promote Oakland as the preferred place to shop, work, learn and live.

 

OBID is:

  • Governed by stakeholders with a vested interest in Oakland’s success
  • Chartered by the City and State to provide economic development services shaped by a charitable mission
  • Fosters critical alliances between diverse stakeholders (from the small entrepreneur and property owner to the large institutions, all voices collaborate to accomplish change
  • Generates revenue to provide necessary services to the district
  • Implements strategic revitalization strategies to keep Oakland competitive
  • Gives voice to the entrepreneurial community
  • Provides on site professional and experienced staff keeping abreast of local and national trends and strategies in the field of economic development

OBID is:

  • Strategic: we align the needs and priorities of our diverse stakeholders with those of our own without losing site of the broader vision;
  • Resourceful: we collaborate with many organizations, drawing on their staff, expertise, experience and programs to assist us in successfully meeting our goals;
  • Practical: we maintain financial stability keeping 47% of the budget committed to operating costs (below the national average for non profits) allowing us to commit over 50% of the budget for delivering product;
  • Capable: we have a proven track record for successfully delivering results and for meeting promised outcomes and expectations;
  • Innovative: we work through a strength based approach, focusing our efforts on innovative and unique approaches to solving common problems;
  • Collaborative: we understand the importance of relationships and how successes happen from people motivated to make change;
  • Compassionate: we encourage the health and wellness of the Oakland community working hand in hand with our various community and human service agency partners;
