Oakland is less than 4 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh central business district. Get there by car or bus. Oakland’s major business corridors are Forbes Avenue and Fifth Avenue, which are one-way. Connecting streets include Craig Street, Bigelow Boulevard, and The Boulevard of the Allies. Also accessible via the Birmingham Bridge from Fifth Avenue. Oakland has metered on-street parking, and parking garages and parking lots are available throughout the neighborhood. |
Getting to Oakland Directions to the Central Oakland Business District: Take the Bates Street exit, proceed onto Bates Street, turn left onto Atwood Street and proceed towards Forbes Avenue. From the South: Take Route 51 to the Liberty Tunnels. Turn right and proceed through the tunnel and across the Liberty Bridge. Use the right hand lane exit to the Boulevard of the Allies. Turn right onto the Blvd. of the Allies (eastbound). Use the Forbes Avenue exit from the Blvd. of the Allies. From the West: Take either I-79 or I-279 follow I-279 North to the Fort Pitt Tunnels (stay in the right hand lane through the tunnels). Upon exiting tunnels, follow signs to I-376 East (Monroeville). Exit I-376 at the Forbes Avenue Exit, approximately 2 miles beyond the Fort Pitt Tunnels. From the North: Take Route 8 South to Route 28. Follow Route 28 North (direction sign says New Kensington) and exit at the Highland Park Bridge (direction sign says Penn Hills). Stay in the left lane crossing the bridge and exit onto Washington Blvd.-this is route 8 south. Follow Route 8 to Penn Avenue intersection. This is the end of Washington Blvd. and the beginning of Fifth Ave. Proceed Straight on Fifth Avenue. From PA Turnpike: Take the Turnpike to exit 6. Follow the signs for I-376 W towards Pittsburgh. Take the Glenwood exit, number 3A. Turn left on to Bates Street. Turn left onto Atwood Street and proceed towards Forbes Avenue.
