There is so much to see and to do in Oakland with each season offering a variety of unique experiences. Summertime explodes with outdoor activities such as the Oakland Farmers’ Market, from end of June thru to mid November, every Friday, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. along Sennott Street. Here you will find the best selection of Pennsylvania farm fresh produce and organic food products. To tempt your palette, Oakland is home to a variety of unique eateries and restaurants. Atwood Street is lined with Pittsburgh’s finest international restaurants; choose from Indian to Mexican cuisine. Also along Atwood Street, Dave and Andy’s Ice Cream provides home made ice cream, just follow the scent of fresh made waffle cones. Spring time in May, the St, Nicholas Greek Food Festival brings the culinary delights of Greece to Pittsburgh www.stnickspgh.org and beginning in June, Flagstaff Hill offers weekly movie nights.
Medical Visitors: As one of Pittsburgh’s most walkable communities, Oakland is perfect for shopping, recreation and relaxation. Over 100 unique shops and restaurants are all conveniently located within a 5 minute walk from Oakland’s many hospitals and doctor’s offices. If your body and soul are in need of nature’s calming force, walk to the beautiful Schenley Plaza, hike or run thru the many trails of Schenley Park or relax amidst nature’s wonders at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. If you are looking to pass some time, you can walk around Oakland’s neighborhoods to view the amazing architectures, public art and more and walk to the Carnegie Museums to view the beautiful collection of the world’s artistic masterpieces and the earth’s rich history.
